Want to become a business owner and CEO directly out of your MBA? If so, keep reading.
Join us on 10/22, when Relay Investments' Nicolas Lulli walks us through the ins-and-outs of the search fund model. Relay Investments was among the first institutional firms to exclusively invest in search funds with a global mandate, and now has the largest international footprint of any institutional investor. Longtime friends and business partners Sandro Mina and Martin Steber have nearly 50 years of investing in the search fund asset class and, to date, has invested in over 150 search funds across 19 countries. Since Sandro and Martin founded Relay Investments in 2013, they have grown the investment team to a total of six investment professionals, which together hold 6 unique citizenships and speak 6 languages.
More background:
A search fund is an investment vehicle through which investors support an entrepreneur's efforts to locate, acquire, manage and grow a privately held company. In this model, a recent MBA graduate (or two graduates) becomes the CEO of the company and works to build the business over the following 5+ years. The entrepreneurs are compensated with a significant equity stake in the value created during their tenure. This challenge and independence has resulted in over 300 Search Funds, with the asset class as a whole boasting an aggregate pre-tax internal rate of return of 33.7 percent and 6.9x multiple of investment. Pioneered in 1984 by the GSB Prof. Irv Grousbeck, the search fund model offers MBA graduates a fast track to the C-suite by way of entrepreneurship through acquisition.
Like all entrepreneurial ventures, Searching is a difficult and demanding journey that is not for everyone, but those who choose this path will have the opportunity to achieve personal, financial, and professional success.
