Come learn about recent healthcare trends in the hosted by USC's Healthcare Clinical Decision Analysis (HCDA) program. Speakers will focus on career opportunities in Biotech and Pharma, the HCDA program and Certificate option for Marshall students, and additional topics in the healthcare landscape.

Grant Lawless

Grant Lawless is an Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical and Health Economics and the Director of Graduate Programs in Healthcare Decision Analysis at the USC School of Pharmacy and Schaeffer Center. Prior to joining the faculty at USC, Dr. Lawless held positions as Executive Director for National Accounts and Payer Markets, Executive and Medical Director for Managed Care Marketing and Director of Health Economics and Outcomes Research at Amgen. Prior to joining Amgen, he served as Vice President for Medical and Pharmacy Affairs for Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Dr. Lawless is an author or co-author of articles appearing in Cancer, Oncology, Clinical Lymphoma, Oncology Economics, Health Affairs, American Journal of Managed Care, American Journal of Medical Quality, Journal of Managed Care Pharmacy, Health Economics, and Benefits Quarterly.     

Dr. LawlessÔÇÖs professional experience is in Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine and is Board Certified and Fellow in Internal Medicine, Quality Assurance and Utilization Review, as well as Addiction Medicine. ┬áHe is also a Registered Pharmacist with specialty certification in Nuclear Medicine. ┬áHe is a graduate of the University of New Mexico and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at University of Pittsburgh and St. Francis Health System in Pittsburgh, PA.

Patrick Gless

Patrick Gless is the Associate Director of Graduate Programs in Healthcare Decision Analysis at the USC School of Pharmacy and Schaeffer Center. Prior to joining USC, Mr. Gless held positions in health economics and outcomes research, marketing, evidence strategy, and market access at Precision Health Economics, a consulting firm to the biopharmaceutical industry. He has advised dozens of pharmaceutical and life sciences companies, including Fortune 100 corporations, on numerous product commercialization challenges for innovative medical technologies. His professional expertise also includes management consulting for long-term care organizations. Prior to working in the private healthcare industry, Mr. Gless served as a combat medic, instructor of trauma medicine, and instructor of Modern Army Combatives in the United States Army. His military service included two overseas combat tours in several countries throughout the Horn of Africa and Middle East in support of the Global War on Terrorism, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he aided counter-insurgency efforts and the development of local healthcare systems.

Mr. Gless received his Bachelor of Science magna cum laude in Public Policy, Management and Planning with a concentration in Heath Policy and Management, Master of Health Administration with a Finance specialization, and Master of Science in Healthcare Decision Analysis with a concentration in Health Economics from the University of Southern California.
