Subject: Silicon Beach @ USC - Sept 18

Greetings from USC!!

I’m reaching out because we are organizing the second annual Silicon Beach @ USC event, scheduled for Sept 18 and I wanted to welcome all of you to join us. We’ll be giving away $50K in our venture competition, which is open to any teams with at least one USC student or recent alum (possible opportunities for students and alums of your schools?) And we are admitting faculty of ALL SCHOOLS at our faculty rate ($75) and students of all schools for our student rate ($10). As folks who are trying to drive entrepreneurship at your schools, you are welcome to join the event as my guest at no charge. More information below, and flyer attached. I’ll be offline for the next week, but feel free to e-mail me and the team with any additional questions. Please feel free to pass this information on at your schools. This is going to  be a great event – please let me know if you’d like to join us!

Event Details:

·         DAY1: Silicon Beach Awards finals: $50K venture competition ($25K first prize) for teams that included at least one USC student or alum.

·         DAY 2: Conference featuring leaders in entertainment, technology, new media platforms, entrepreneurship and investment.  (for a better idea of the event format, see last year’s program here: http://siliconbeachusc.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/SB@USC-program-for-web.pdf).

Last year’s highlights: Over 70 teams in the Silicon Beach Awards venture competition, over 300 attendees at the conference (roughly half of them USC students), and a number of sponsors and partners. The event was also covered by the press, including the Huffington Post, KTLA News, Buzzfeed, TechZulu, and of course, USC’s Daily Trojan.

This year, we’ll host the SB@USC conference in partnership with USC’s Cinema, Communication, and Engineering schools on September 18. We are expanding upon last year’s successes and expect significantly higher attendance (with the potential for streaming), more press coverage, and more engagement from the larger community. The key themes will be innovation (in startups and the enterprise), technology (i.e., the “silicon” in Silicon Beach), and the digital revolution that is transforming the Los Angeles area. Our goal is to create experiences that can’t be replicated by simply reading up on current topics, and to provide life examples that truly inspire and embolden SoCal’s next generation of entrepreneurs to take the leap.
