Here are some general tips for a successful case competition experience. This advice comes directly from MBA students who have participated in case competitions.

• Having members with a variety of skills sets and backgrounds will make your team much stronger.
• Get started early! You'll still be working up until the very end, but the more you do ahead of time, the more prepared you will be.
• Always have data to back up your ideas, and be prepared to make adjustments to your recommendations as you uncover the data.
• Try to know your audience as much as possible. Will you be presenting to industry executives? Academics? Others? Tailor your presentation and discussion to the specific audience.
• Prepare for the Q&A portion of the presentation by playing devil's advocate.
• Dress professionally at all competition related events, such as welcome receptions, meet and greets with company representatives, and awards dinners.
• Get at least a few hours of sleep the night before your presenation.
• Use your experience as a great networking opportunity. Students find internships and full-time jobs through case competition experiences.
• Have fun!
