New Marshall Graduate Student Organization Proposals

The Marshall administration and MGSA work closely together to ensure that the Marshall student organization community remains vibrant and sustainable, while offering something for everyone. While we feel strongly that the current roster of Marshall graduate student organizations meets this need, we understand that there will be students who are interested in starting new Marshall graduate student organizations from time to time.

There are many steps involved with starting a new Marshall graduate student organization. The first is to go through the new student organization pitch and proposal review process. If you are interested exploring the option of starting a new organization, you need to do the following:

  • Schedule a meeting with one of the Program Office staff members in order to explore the idea of the student organization and understand everything involved with starting a new organization.
  • If, after the meeting, you decide to formally propose the new club, you will need to submit a new student organization proposal, which consists of:
    • 1 - Student organization charter (mission) and justification for why the student organization is needed in addition to Marshall's already existing clubs.
    • 2 - A list of the "critical mass" of Marshall MBA students interested in starting/joining/leading the student organization (minimum 30 students).
    • 3 - The name of a staff member who has committed to advising the student organization.A list of proposed events you plan to offer throughout the year and a description of how each of these events supports the club's mission and Marshall goals.
    • 4 - A list of proposed events you plan to offer throughout the year and a description of how each of these events supports the club's mission and Marshall goals. Benchmarking research from other schools to further support the need for the club.
    • 5 - Benchmarking research from other schools to further support the need for the student organization.

The deadline for new Marshall graduate student organization proposals for consideration in the 2024-2025 academic year is April 1, 2024.

A committee made up of members of MGSA, Program Office staff and Career Services staff (if career related) will review the proposal and make a decision. A meeting between the committee and the new student organization leadership may be required.

If the new student organization is approved:

  • The new student organization leadership commits to completing all new student organization administrative tasks prior to the end of the spring semester, or risks losing Marshall graduate student organization status.
  • The new club president will be on-boarded through the club leadership transition process with the existing club leaders in March/April. All Marshall student organization policies apply.
